Who the hells 'We'?

Actually its just me, but its very nice to meet you! I have thoughts on occasion and enjoy writing, so here we are.I'm a college student studying biochemistry with a hope and dream to go to med school for forensic pathology. I'm from the midwest and seemingly trapped here forever. I love creating in any way. Have a deep hatred for spoons, especially if they're metal. Listen to a lot of metal music, and go to concerts a few times a month. And random shit just happens to me sometimes, so why not write it out?Enjoy or don't! Everything I do is entirely to entertain myself, but it'd be awesome if this is a random addition to someone else's day too!

The Hells a Zine?

Well, first off, its probably the little book you got this link from. You didn't just follow some random QR code, right? That's dangerous. Don't do that. But a zine, which comes from the word magaZINE, is a self/small group-made mini magazine. They've been a thing from, depending on how you define them, as early as the 1700s, or even earlier through pamplets, but we're super popular in the 1960s in sci-fi communities, and saw another big boom with the punk movement in the 70s and 80s. I'd say they're having another 'boom' currently, especially with the increasing interest in physical media again.

But what are they?
Truly, you can't define a zine. The Broken Frames Zine is what I define as a perzine--Personal Zine. Because its about my personal day-to-day; what I'm interested in, care about, or feel like sharing. But some zines are more specific to being a fanwork of some media--Fanzines. Or discussing the political climate, or only discussing bands in the area, or literally whatever someone wants to talk about. To me, at least, a zine is a thing created with the intention to share.

If a zine is a little magazine? Why is your's also digital?
Within the zine community, at least within the older generations, there's been an ongoingg debate on whether zines can be digital. Zines are most commonly physical booklets that are hand-made by people to be distributed however they pleased. The physicality of them was a big thing.I, PERSONALLY, see no reason why zines can't be digital. I enjoy making my physical zine, and all of my zines start ass digital. I simply scan them into this so it can be shared and stored in an easier, less expensive, way. Zines aren't supposed to have rules, anyone who tries to tell you what a zine can and can't be doesn't get it.

Who can make a zine?
ANYBODY!!!!!
ANYONE!!!!
YOU CAN MAKE A ZINE!!
ANYONE WITH AN IDEA! WITH A WANT TO SHARE AND DISCUSS CAN MAKE A ZINE!
I can't emphasize this enough, the only thing you need to make a zine is an idea.Wanna make a zine about the cool bird you saw? Do it.Wanna share some pictures you took of cool cracks in the sidewalk? GO FOR ITWanna share your poems, or short stories, or your theories on why the finale of Supernatural was all a hallucinations while Dean was dying and he just dreamt Sam's goofy ass life? Not only should you make it, but you should share it with ME!Like I said, zines are things to be created and shared. And hell, you don't even have to share it! Make a zine for yourself and put that shit right into a shoe box if you'd like! You don't need any sort of special skills, or money, or equipment. Just enough dedication to put some words or drawing to paper or screen.

I wanna share my zine, how do I do it?
There's a lot of ways! Go to zine festivals and sell/trade them with other zinesters (that's a person who makes and reads zines!) in your area! You can leave them at shops for people to take if they'd like. You can leave them at bus stops or hand them out to people on this street. You can mail them to your friends. You can make them an Instagram or website and share it there. You can distribute them at concerts! However you feel like sharing your zine, you can.

Still have questions about zines?

Feel free to reach out and ask! I'll tell you what I can. But feel free to do your own research! Zines are awesome, go crazy

INTERVIEWS!!!!!

Trying to learn or find your new favorite band? At least once every zine I interview and talk about one band I saw in concert that month! Linked with their interviews, you'll be able to find transcripts, links to their music and merch, and high lights from the interviews!
